The La Salle Explores hosted the Saint Joseph’s Hawks Saturday evening, in a Philadelphia Atlantic 10 match up, and broke their 7-game losing streak with a victory, 83-66.
“It feels good to get over the hump,” said La Salle’s coach, Ashley Howard.
The Explorers came out with a high paced and energetic tone and the Hawks answered right back to make it an especially physical game throughout. Halfway through the first half, a referee was observed to be warning La Salle’s Saul Phiri and Saint Joe’s Ryan Daly about their physicality. By the second half both teams were over their foul limit.
With La Salle’s record for their conference at 1-8 and Saint Joe’s 0-9, the win for both teams would give an undoubtedly positive boost to morale.
“As long as we keep working hard, were gonna be successful eventually,” stated David Beatty, La Salle’s offensive leader with 18 points.
With 3 minutes left in the game and up by 13, the team still played with an urgency and purpose. Ed Croswell also led La Salle with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Saint Joe’s struggled offensively with their field goal shot percentage at 28% for the game versus La Salle’s 44%. Still, Saint Joe’s Ryan Daly led his team with 26 points.
”We tried our best to limit his touches, we denied him, but he still found a way to get 26 points,” said Coach Howard.
La Salle will host Richmond on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
