The Blue Coats come into this game on a four game losing streak and are hoping to get their first home win since January 25th.The last time these two teams matched up the Bulls won 114-103 at Wilmington as the Blue Coats were without Zhaire and Marial Shayok.
This is the first home game for the new acquisition Dennis Clifford, a former Boston College player who was also a G-League All-Star in 2017 with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Coach Connor Johnson said about what Clifford brings to the team “He’s tough. He brings a level of physicality and diversity. He can play a little bit better on the perimeter then some of the fives we have had which adds some variety for us.”
Another note is that Max Strus didn’t play for Windy City as he was listed inactive. He is a big piece of the offense for the Bulls averaging 18.2 PPG.
The Blue Coats are gonna have to try to find a way to slow down Jared Blossomgame who put up 26 points and 16 rebounds in the last match against the Blue Coats.
The game started cold from both sides as the first bucket came from a Marial shayok layup at the nine minute mark. This was the start for a hot first quarter for Marial Shayok with seven points including a deep contested three from the front of the logo.
The 1st quarter ended with a 9-0 run out of the timeout by the Bulls in a surprisingly low scoring quarter 18-19 as the Blue Coats were down one.
The 2nd quarter was back and forth to start until about halfway through the quarter the Blue Coats started to pull away grabbing a seven point lead. Koumadje was bringing down the house with three offensive rebounds and one monster dunk to put the Blue Coats up nine with a little less than three minutes left to go in the half. The Blue Coats went into halftime up 52-40 hoping to keep up the solid play.
The 3rd quarter was all Blue Coats as they were able to pull away even more thanks to the help of Justin Robinson and Koumadje who continued to be an absolute force in the paint. The Blue Coats found themselves in foul trouble late in the quarter as Dennis Clifford picked up his 5th foul and Shayok picked up a technical for delay of game. What was at one point an 18 point led was cut to just ten.
The Blue Coats started the 4th quarter strong as Brownridge scored their first eight points. Koumadje picked up a huge block and then slams it down at the other end for an and one slam putting the Blue Coats up 17 with five minutes to go.
Not only that Zhaire Smith was taking flight in the 4th quarter with a monster slam from almost the distance of the foul line. Shayok also had himself a night picking up 25 points shooting 9/16 from the field.
The Blue Coats come out with the win breaking a four game skid as Windy City shot 7/31 from three tonight as the Blue Coats shot an impressive 15/32. The Blue Coats look to carry the momentum from the win into the game in Capital City.
